Purpose: to enhance the openness of enterprises and their participation, within the support of the Region of Central Macedonia, in outward-looking actions (e.g. exhibitions, business missions, roadshows etc.) aiming at publicising and promoting their products on the European market.
Business openness is an extremely important tool for developing entrepreneurship while increasing their competitiveness. Expanding the potential market and at the same time strengthening their knowledge through partnerships with overseas companies is a challenging feat but at the same time an opportunity for further growth, competitive advantage, the creation of new high value added jobs and business development in general.
Supporting all, and especially the innovative enterprises to gain access to international markets will strengthen their long-term and sustainable competitive advantage and flexibility while improving economic regional development indicators.
Towards this direction, the Region of Central Macedonia has designed and implemented a coherent action plan.
1. Establishment of a European Office of in Brussels
The office of the Region of Central Macedonia in Brussels is a strategic openness move. With the European Office, the Region of Central Macedonia strengthens its effectiveness, flexibility and openness. This organised and continuous presence at the European decision-making centre, will lead to additional and more effective efforts into demanding new actions, new opportunities for innovation, new technologies, digital revolution, start-up and outward-looking entrepreneurship. The Region of Central Macedonia office will serve the openness strategies for all Central Macedonia institutions, business chambers, universities, municipalities, and especially businesses and research institutions.
2. Participation in Exhibitions and Business Missions
Participating in well-organized exhibitions in business missions and B2B meetings within the target markets will enhance the ability of SMEs to enter, expand and operate successfully in European and international markets, creating new collaborations, establishing their international presence and offering the opportunity to develop strategic partnerships within Greece and abroad.
Participating in exhibitions is one of the factors that promote openness, but the limited economic resources of small enterprises prevent them from participating. It is important for the Region to ensure that businesses in the region have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions, roadshows, business missions and other events through their business associations or on their own. It is also important for new and innovative businesses to have the same opportunities.
The Region of Central Macedonia is already implementing actions to support SMEs in their effort to expand their target market by entering foreign markets. The planning map of the next years makes provision for an increase in the budget of the relevant openness actions, with emphasis on innovative entrepreneurship and “champions” sectors of the Region, offering participation sites to food, tourism, IT and communication exhibitions.
It should be noted that the Region of Central Macedonia participated in 12 + 4 exhibitions in 2018, while in 2019 this figure will be considerably larger, allowing for the participation of even more companies.
